Revolving Door Between Congress and Lobbyists Is Speeding Up

YURI GRIPAS

The revolving door between Congress and lobbyists is spinning faster this year than it has since 2011.

Through the first nine months of 2015, 498 people have moved from Congress to the lobbying business or vice versa, according to the Congressional research company LegiStorm. That’s more than transitioned between Congress and K Street throughout 2014 and represents the fastest full-year pace since 2011, when Republicans took control of the House of Representatives and nearly 800 staffers made such moves. Off-election years, like 2015, tend to see staffers move around more, LegiStorm says.

Republicans have been more likely to move this year, accounting for almost 60 percent of the staffing switches.
