You probably think of Black Friday as the best day to find discounts on popular holiday items and gifts like apparel and electronics, but in recent years several other types of merchants have gotten in on the savings day.
Here are three unexpected sales categories that are offering surprisingly good deals on Black Friday weekend:
- 1. Used Cars.
Black Friday is the best day of the entire year to get a deal on a used car, according to an analysis by iSeeCars.com. Car dealers have helped fuel demand by offering big November incentives and heavily advertising their Black Friday deals. There are 33 percent more deals (defined as savings of 5 percent or more) on Black Friday than average.

- 2. Travel.
Several of the major hotel chains and airlines are offering huge discounts to members of their loyalty programs, such as 25 percent off from Hyatt or up to 50 percent off at Warwick Hotels. Third-party sites are also getting in on the discounts: Expedia is offering up to 75 percent off some booking made via its app today, and Travelocity has a deal that could be worth up to $500 off of hotel stays. - 3. Furniture
Furniture chain Ashley Furniture is calling its Black Friday discounts of up to 50 percent or five years with no interest and no money down “the best sale in history.” But it’s not the only furniture story offering savings this weekend, you’ll also find crazy deals of up to 40 percent off sofas or a free television with the purchase of a mattress at Raymour & Flanagan.
