The Best Hotels in the World

Shinta Mani Resort

Sometimes you just need to get away from it all, and what better place to do that than the world’s best hotels?

The travel site TripAdvisor recently unveiled its Traveler’s Choice awards, listing the world’s best hotels according to its readers. Most of the hotels on the list don’t come cheap, but they do offer luxurious amenities like spas, golf courses, private beaches and gourmet dining. For example, the JA Manafaru in the Maldives, ranked number 10, will set you back an average of $800 a night.

The average nightly rate for one of these top hotels is $340. Still, there are some bargains on the list. The number one hotel -- the Aria Hotel Budapest by the Library Hotel Collection in Hungary -- has rooms for a relatively modest $288 a night. And you’ll pay just $102 a night to stay at the Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa (ranked number eight).

Only one hotel on the list -- the Nantucket Hotel & Resort in Massachusetts -- is based in the United States.

The hotels on the list are fairly well spread across the globe, but Italy, Maldives, India and Brazil each make two appearances.

American travelers will benefit from the strong dollar, which means that in many parts of the world their money will go a bit further. You could save a bit more by booking your trip during the off-season.
