The headline at Politico says it all: “Lobbyists prepare for battle royal over tax breaks.”

For some special interest groups, the battle has already begun. Retailers spent millions on TV ads in their successful fight against the possibility of a border adjustment tax earlier this year, and a collation representing regional political interests, Americans Against Double Taxation, just launched a new campaign to defend the state and local tax deduction.

Other groups getting ready for battle include the National Association of Home Builders, the Advertising Coalition and the American Bankers Association.

With Congress needing to find trillions of dollars to make up for at least some of the tax cuts, the battle could get hot as lawmakers look for new sources of revenue over the next few months.
