Kentucky Gets the Go-Ahead on Medicaid Work Requirements

MIKE BLAKE

Just a day after the Trump administration issued new rules allowing states to enforce work requirements for Medicaid recipients, Kentucky received permission to begin doing so Friday.

The approval is expected to receive immediate legal challenges, with some critics charging that work requirements could harm some Medicaid recipients.

According to The Wall Street Journal, “Kentucky will be the first test case. The state’s Medicaid program covers more than two million people, and many of the new rules proposed by Republican Gov. Matt Bevin will apply to people covered before the expansion as well as those covered by the state’s Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act.”

Nine other states seeking permission to begin their own programs: Arizona, Arkansas, Indiana, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah and Wisconsin.
