The Congressional Budget Office released a new report Monday on the distribution of income in the U.S.

Ignoring means-tested transfers and federal taxes, the average household income in 2014 was $19,000 for the lowest fifth and $281,000 for the highest fifth. The distribution was "highly skewed" at the very top, the CBO said, with an average income of $1.8 million for the 1.2 million households that made up the top 1 percent.

Taxes and transfer had a significant effect on the final distribution, however, raising incomes in the bottom fifth to $36,000 and lowering incomes in the top fifth to $207,000.

Many more interesting details in the report, here.
