Republicans hold the majority in the House for a few more weeks, but that numerical advantage doesn’t mean much if lawmakers don’t show up to vote.

Politico’s Brian Faler says that dozens of lawmakers have been absent in recent days, to the point where a vote on the GOP tax bill had to be postponed Friday due in part to a lack of bodies on the House floor – and the missing included five Republican tax writers.

Overall, at least 60 lawmakers are not returning to Congress in January, one analyst told Faler, and it’s not clear that there will be enough members available to push the tax package through in the next few weeks.
