As we speak, Senator Ted Cruz, the controversial Tea Party Republican has taken the floor on the Senate to start a marathon filibuster.

He plans to speak against Obamacare, the president’s signature health plan, “until I am no longer able to stand.”  There’s no doubt that Cruz is an evangelist when it comes to defunding the program.  He convinced House Republicans to push and pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) that funds the government through the end of the year without funding Obamacare.  Then he left them holding the bag when he admitted that the Senate was powerless to support the resolution.

That left Republicans furious, especially Senator John McCain who once called Cruz and other intractable lawmakers “wacko birds.”

So Cruz stands alone, probably aided by a jar of Vaseline to keep his lips moist and a case of water supplied by Marco Rubio.  Clearly he hasn’t read the latest NBC/Wall Street Journal poll which says that 59 percent of Americans are opposed to defunding Obamacare.  They don’t like the law, but they want it to drop by its own weight.
