Sonny Bono
The Sonny of the entertainment duo Sonny and Cher, Bono was elected mayor of Palm Springs, Calif., in 1988. The Republican entertainer later won a seat in the House, but died in a skiing accident 10 years after starting his political career. His wife, Mary Bono, was then elected to fill the remainder of his term and won multiple reelections.
