The 14 Biggest IPOs in History

AIA

Deal Size: $17.816 billion
Date: October 21, 2010
The Asian life insurance arm of AIG, AIA was carved out from its parent company to become, as Renaissance Capital put it, "the only pure play Pan-Asian life insurer." AIG had tried to sell the division to Britain's Prudential, but that deal fell apart. AIG said it would use part of the proceeds of the IPO to repay the $182 billion in bailout funds it got from the U.S. government during the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009.
