Lincoln

Sculpted from 28 blocks of white Georgia marble by Daniel Chester French and carved by the Piccirilli brothers of New York, the massive seated statue of Abe Lincoln is grandly situated in the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall and rises 30 feet from the floor; the 19-foot seated figure rests on an 11-foot high pedestal as our 16th president gazes straight ahead, grave and solemn, toward the Washington Monument. The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated on May 30, 1922, by President Warren G. Harding.
