Transportation Accidents

You’re safer than ever traveling from here to there. The number of traffic fatalities in 2010 fell to the lowest levels since 1949. The U.S. Department of Transportation credits stronger traffic safety laws, better enforcement, and new safety technologies on cars, like lane departure warning systems. Railway accidents fell by 64 percent from 1990 to 2011 though the number of train miles increased by 18 percent. And in March, the International Air Transport Association announced that the 2011 accident rate for Western-built jets was the lowest in aviation history.
