If you’re going on a hot air balloon ride in Kansas you may get slapped with extra tax, depending on whether or not the balloon is tethered to the ground. Tethered hot air balloon rides are considered to be an amusement ride, thus subjected to sales tax. However, if you’re riding in an untethered hot air balloon, you’re exempt from the tax, since they are considered a legitimate form of air transportation.
