Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards (1987)

After poor initial sales, this "wholeheartedly sexist" game eventually grew to be a commercial and critical success. In it, the player takes control of 37-year old loser Larry Laffer, who travels to the fictional casino city of Lost Wages (geddit?) in order to make love with the woman of his dreams. Obviously, it received criticism for its overly sexual content, sexist nature, and crude, scatalogical language. Also notable for an adorably flawed age-verification system that asked the player trivia questions about current events and US politics.
