After pleading guilty to tax evasion charges in June 2012, the eight time Grammy-winning singer served three months in prison. Hill had failed to pay income taxes on about $1.8 million in earnings over a decade. The former member of the band The Fugees told the judge that she had planned to pay her taxes eventually, but she was unable to after dropping out of the music business. The judge responded that citizens don’t get to choose when they can pay the government.
