The 5 Best and Worst Jobs for New Grads

With graduation season around the corner, millions of Americans will be seeking their first job, and even though the unemployment rate overall has fallen to 5.5 percent, it may not be that easy to enter the workforce.

Youth unemployment is at 13.9 percent and more than 30 percent of millennials are still living with their parents, making it more challenging than than in the past for the new generation of workers to find a job.

WalletHub has compiled a list of the best and worst entry-level jobs looking at 11 key metrics ranging from starting salaries to industry growth rate.

Here are the 5 best entry-level jobs:

1.     Training Specialist.  Being a training specialist mostly consists of designing training programs used to improve an organization's performance. The median starting salary  is $47,621, with over 100,000 job openings nationwide.

“That's an abundance of openings, but they're actually going pretty quickly,” said Jill Gonzalez, an expert with WalletHub. “The unemployment rate for this specific field is only 3.3 percent, and the projected job growth by 2022 is over 15 percent, so demand is high.”

The top-paying areas for training specialists are Washington D.C., California and Massachusetts.

2.   APP Developer.   With new startups sprouting and thriving all around the country, developers in general and particularly apps developers are in high demand.

3.  Network Engineer.  This job offers great immediate opportunities and attractive growth prospects, but you’ll have to put in long hours.

4.  Attorney.  Not surprisingly, attorneys, including tax, patent or employment law attorneys have some of the highest starting salaries and offers some of the best growth potential.

5.  Environmental Engineer.  This is another job of the future where the principles of engineering, biology and chemistry are combined to develop systems to address environmental problems especially to improve recycling, waste disposal, public health and air/water pollution control.
