LAWRENCE J. HAAS, a former senior White House official and award-winning journalist, writes widely on foreign and domestic affairs. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, Miami Herald, San Diego Union-Tribune, and many other publications. He has appeared on CNN, CNNfn, CNBC, FOX, FNN, C-SPAN, History Channel, Voice of America, NPR, the BBC, and many local TV and radio shows. Haas has written three books and ghostwritten others. His books include Running on Empty: Bush, Congress and the Politics of a Bankrupt Government (1990) and two editions of The Washington Almanac (1992 and 1993).
