Poll of the Day: Which Party Will Do Better at Lowering Drug Prices?

JONATHAN ERNST/Reuters

Americans don’t trust President Trump and Republicans to bring down prescription drug prices, a new Axios/SurveyMonkey poll finds. “But what stands out,” Axios’ Sam Baker writes, “isn't just that [Trump and the GOP] don't do well — it's that they come in third, behind the Democrats and ‘neither.’”

Some key numbers:

  • 35 percent say they trust Democrats to bring down drug prices
  • 30 percent say they don’t trust either party on the issue, including a whopping 72 percent of independents
  • Opinions are sharply divided along partisan lines, with just 3 percent of Republicans saying they trust Democrats to bring down drug costs and 1 percent of Democrats saying they trust Republicans.
  • 61 percent say they’re not confident that Trump will be able to lower drug prices as promised.

The poll surveyed 2,798 adults between November 13 and 15. It has a 2.5 percentage point margin of error.
